Wordy Words

Hello you awesome people!

So, this is Abby, the 'abs' in 'shabs' (I've been dying to say that), and this is a page that is just mine.

The thing is I love words, and I love poems - the way things are left for you to piece together on your own. How the words sound when you read them, the flow and the mystery they hold. This is the reason why I'm a poet, I've had three pieces published, and so I decided to share with you all some of the things that never made it onto the pages of a book. I hope you enjoy them, and if you fancy leaving me a comment then go ahead - I might even figure out how to reply.

So, let the rambling words of a teenage girl commence . . .

The Possibility of a Fairytale

Close your eyes and count to ten, open them and I'll take you by the hand . . .

Let's fly off to Neverland like Peter Pan and Wendy,
Or escape this world, run away to Narnia, to stroke Aslan's mane.

Me and you, hand in hand,
Side by side as we flee in sync,
We can make fairytail's become reality,
And steal their 'happily ever after'.

Maybe one day it'll be our story that children fall asleep to.

Close your eyes and count to ten, open them and I'll take you by the hand,
And believe me when I say:

Anything is possible.

Consolation of a Wounded Soul

Whilst you're sat there waiting for the storm to pass,
I'll be the wind blowing it away,
Whilst you're waiting for the rain to dry,
I'll be the sun shining down so strong.

And when that lone tear falls down your cheek,
I'll be the friendly face wiping it away.

Playing by Society's Rules

We live like we fear what tomorrow may bring,
Dreading the changes that ride in the wind,
Fearing the mistakes we made in the past,
Walking the highway we know.

We cushion the young, in prejudice of mistakes,
Whilst feeding their insecurities along the way,
Playing by the rules the media creates,
Fearing the un-walked path.

Weight is a word whispered in sin,
Beauty not even an attainable thing,
We taint the young, criticise the old,
These are the norms that society holds.

Tomorrow

Have you ever wondered what tomorrow could bring?
Thought of the people you might meet, or the hearts you might touch,
Considered the sunrises you could watch,
The rain storms you could dance in, and the lightening you could predict.

Take what you want to see, and hold onto it tight,
Close your eyes and imagine the sights,
Picture the scenes, imagine the smells,
Feel the sun, the rain and the wind,
And never forget what you want to be.

Yesterday holds the memories you wish to keep close,
Yesterday built today, and today builds tomorrow,
Remember the moments, the laughs and the smiles,
And think of the future, because who knows what it could bring
